Hello my name is Joyce del Rosario.
When I turned 40, my friend Ann Chen asked if I wanted to join her in the “Esther Salon”. We were both single, in our 40’s and seeking out what that meant. The Esther Salon is more of a posture than a place. It is an intentional effort to create space to discover our value and belovedness. It is an intentional time to take care of one’s self physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
In the bible, Esther spent a year preparing to be chosen by the King. This was tactical. She was setting herself up to be the best so she could stand out amongst the other candidates. Because of her time in the Esther Salon, she was positioned and ready when her people needed her to act on their behalf, “for such a time as this”. Now, your journey and my journey will probably not end with either of us becoming Queen and saving a nation, but you never know. What is true is that we are, as Christians, the Bride of Christ. The Esther Salon is my journey to understanding that. This blog is an invitation to journey with me.
I’ve been in ministry for over 20 years. Most of these years were as an Area Director with Young Life and the Executive Director of New Creation Home Ministries. I have an M.Div from Princeton Theological Seminary, a Th.M. from Fuller Theological Seminary and am working on a Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies at Fuller as well. However, My best education has come from this journey with Jesus, love and awe for God, and a new connection to the Holy Spirit.
